Eradication of Deafness in Kanpur Dehat
111/399, ASHOK NAGAR KANPUR - 208012
comprehensive ENT services (CENTS), is proposed for district Kanpur Dehat
(Kanpur Rural), Kanpur Dehat is surrounded by districts Kanpur Nagar, Hamirpur,
Auriya, Kannauj and across the river yamuna is district Jalaun.
Name Kanpur is a transformed revision
of its original name Kanhapur given by two ruler?s Hindu Singh of Sachendi and
Ghanshyam Singh of Ramaipur. The British ruler Hobson Johnson found the word
difficult to pronounce and he changed it to Cawnpore. Later on it was named as
Kanpur. Kanpur was then divided into two districts namely Kanpur Nagar &
Kanpur Dehat in the year 1977. Reunited again in the year 1979. Again separated
in the year 1981 and later named as Kanpur and Ramabai Nagar, presently they
are two separate districts as Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat with Maiti near
Akbarpur Tehsil as its Administrative Head Quarter; which is around 45 Kms away
from Kanpur Nagar.
Dehat is district with 10 developed blocks some of the major demographic
indicators of the district are as below.

According to the 2011 census figures, it is clearly evident that
out of total work force majority 23% depends on agriculture and only 1% of the
total work force is engaged in cottage or house hold industry. This indicates
that a large population is living under the poverty line, Kakvan and Sarvankera
blocks rate high in crop density, while Rasoolabad, Sandalpur, Derapur, rate
fairly low in this regard. Main reason is
and lack of source of irrigation, Sandalpur does well in cash crops, while other
blocks do not do so well. Derapur & Jhinjhak rank high from the angel of
net shown areas, Kakvan & Maitha block rank low and are the under developed
category. However block Malsa, Amrandha, Aandalpur are counted in the
developing category regarding cultivation per farmer.
Pradesh, one of the most populated states of the country should be a priority
state for the National deafness control programmers because of the high
prevalence rate. A huge backlog and
consistent increase in the number of cases of deafness. As neither any Central
Govt. Programmers is being planned or implemented in a wide spread way so as to
reduce the avoidable cases of deafness, nor the state Govt. has any kind of
infrastructure to contribute to the cause, nor availability of surgeons,
neither any qualified Audiometrist in any block of the district and thus the
districts are very poor in terms of resources and performance. Kanpur Rural is
one such district where ENT care services are neither available nor accessible
deafness surgeries in the district during next years.
PATIENT TO BE TREATED WITH MEDICINE
PATIENT WITH HEARING LOSS TO BE SCREENED IN A YEAR
REQURING SURGICAL TREATMENT DURING NEXT 1 YEAR
OF PERSONS TO BE BENIFITED BY HEARING AID
The data clearly indicates the
magnitude of deafness due to many a causes, and shall be compiling year by year
in the district of Kanpur Dahat.
HEALTH CARE INFRASTRUCTURE:
As the Government is the major
health service provider in the district and even in the blocks, according to
government of India norms each Sub-center should cater about
5000 population but in Kanpur Dehat the equation is very different, this
clearly indicates the poor reach of health services to the people. There are no
major Programme on preventable deafness under The National Rural Health Mission
(NRHM). There is no deliverance of even deafness screening at any level, not
even for early identification of children with disability remains an area of
concern in these places.
ENT CARE INFRASTRUCTURE
Kanpur Dehat is one of the districts
where ENT care services are neither available nor there is any distinct programme
from the Government sector even contribution form. The National programme for
control of deafness is Nil. There is no ENT Surgeon posted in the district
hospital nor even any qualified Audiometric at any block level.
Adding fuel to the fire there are no
NGO?s neither in Kanpur Nagar or Kanpur Dehat, who make any kind of efforts for
neither awareness nor prevention of avoidable
deafness Dr. S.N. Mehrotra Memorial ENT Foundation on intervals do
organize free ENT Screening Camps and totally subsidized procedures, completely
at there own cost. No assistance from any corner what so ever.
